Hi Crafters and Friends. Well here is a wonderfully versatile set of stamps from Clarity. I have had so many ideas for projects using these. The design can be used to create a myriad of different looks for your projects. Here is something quite different. Let’s set the scene… Imagine digging up a chest, only to open the creaky lid and discover a Tudor Flyer of London in 1596, well that is what we have here.
You will need:
  • Clarity Townhouse Layering Stamps and Mask Set
  • Letterbox Masks and Stamps
  • Numbers and Symbols Stamps and Masks
  • Stencil Design Club Issue 21
  • Stencil Design Club Issue 31
  • Matt Black Card
  • Cream Card
  • Theuva Card or White Super Smooth
  • Versamark Ink Pad
  • Distress Oxide Gathered Twigs
  • Versafine Black Ink Pad
  • Scrap Paper for an extra mask
  • Cold Tea (Strong, No Milk)
Step 1: Gently screw your white card to create some creases. Flatten and soak in strong cold tea for an hour or so. Remove and dry overnight. Then distress all of the edges.
Step 2: Position and stamp the main image, then position the date and title with Versafine Black Ink.
Step 3: Add a part frame and a few embellishments using the stencils and Gathered Twigs Distress Oxide.
Step 4&5: Mask off the main image, dates and title. Add a suggestion of text to the lower two thirds of the page. Here I have used a text stamp from Leonie Pujol. You can use any but try to stick to small text.
Step 6: Add the brown filler stamp, using Gathered Twigs Distress Oxide, build the colour up until you are happy with the depth of colour. You might want to over stamp to give you a stronger black line. Don’t worry these stamps are so easy to line up.
Step 7: Mask off using the mask included in the collection to add some sky. Here I have used a generic dot stamp and gathered twigs. It gives a pixel look like old printing.
Step 8: Mask off the whole design leaving just the townhouses, coat with Versamark and clear Ultra Thick Embossing Powder. Build up 3 layers of this. Place in the freezer for 5 minutes. Remove and gently crack the surface. Rub in some gathered twigs to highlight the cracks. Then further distress your background.
Step 9: Using your cream card and the text stamp, create your base card or base if you want to make this a hanging. Use gather twigs to stamp the text, then blend a little around the very edges. Roll a couple of the corners around a pen or similar to form a little roll.
Step 10: Layer your design onto black card, then mount onto your base.
These really are wonderful stamps to use. I have made projects ranging from clean and simple, bright seaside themes to this with its grungy twist. They have been a joy to use. Please don’t miss the shows with Barbara on Sunday 2nd September.
Thank you so much for joining me today. I really hope you have enjoyed the tutorial  and a different way of using this stamp and mask set from Clarity. I hope to see you all very soon. Take care and Happy Crafting.xx
