The Herb & Spice Co. share their secret with The Craft Store on how to make an all American-style BBQ Rub to help you impress your guests at the next summer party!

With the weather getting warmer and as we gradually start seeing our friends and family again, barbeques across the country are being pulled out of hibernation, dusted off and fired up! At The Herb & Spice Co., the BBQ season is perhaps our most favourite of all! With an array of herbs, spices and seasonings at our disposal, we endeavour to create fabulous BBQ delights to impress!

The fantastic thing about herbs and spices is that they can take a humble chicken leg, potato wedge or pork chop and completely transform it’s flavour. Whether you have your own secret spice mix recipe or you buy seasonings ready blended, the art of using herbs and spices is unique to everyone!

Step One: Make Your Base

3 TBSP Sweet Paprika

2 TBSP Salt

1 TBSP Cumin

1 TBSP Onion Powder

1 TBSP Garlic Granules

1 TBSP Black Pepper

Stir well to mix all the spices together. Move on to step two to personalise your seasoning!

Step Two: Customise!

Chilli Flakes

Add 1-2tsp to give your seasoning a chilli kick! Added too much? Balance out with more paprika.

 

Brown Sugar

2tbsp will make your seasoning sticky & sweet! Perfet for glazing.

 

Smoked Paprika

2tbsp of smoked paprika will add a smoky depth to your seasoning.

Ready to go?

BBQ rub is perfect mixed with oil and used as a marinade or glaze. Try mixing with honey, vinegar, oil and pour on meats, chicken, fish & vegetables before grilling! BBQ Rub is also perfect used dry, sprinkled on fries and wedges or even mixed in Cajun rice dishes.
